Attacking Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression can wreak havoc on your life. If you are experiencing worry and extreme sadness that doesn’t go away, you can relate to what I mean by havoc. Daily life becomes more difficult and if you ignore the warning signs that your body is sending you, your mental state could spiral into a crisis situation.

I have lived with anxiety and depression all my life. It started in childhood, where I experienced quite a lot of instability. This was back in the seventies, when depression wasn’t talked about and Valium was the answer to anxiety. It wasn’t until years later, in my thirties, I discovered that I wasn’t crazy and there are hundreds of thousands of other people going throught the same thing. I was at the beginning of a recovery from years of substance abuse, anger, resentment, you name it, I was a mess.

Here I will provide you a condensed list of tips on how I was able to win my battle with anxiety and depression.

The first thing I suggest you do is see a doctor and be evaluated. You may be prescribed medication and find it to be helpful. For me, I had a hard time tolerating anti-depressants and didn’t take one until a few years ago when I got divorced. I had been married for 20 years, he had an affair and my world as I knew it fell apart. I lost my home, I wouldn’t work, so I quit my job. My coping skills weren’t enough to manage my symptoms so I took Lexapro for about a year. Non-addictive medications such as Lexapro and Celexa can be helpful to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, but there are so many other aspects to getting back in control over your life that must be learned and implemented into your daily routine.

It is so important to educate yourself about anxiety and depression. How can you begin to manage something not knowing what it is. Read about it on the Internet and ask your doctor about peer support groups in your area which I highly recommend. Sharing common experiences with peers offers a safe haven for building trust so you can talk about your problems with people who have been there.

As you begin to increase your understanding about the symptoms and causes of anxiety and depression, you will learn how your background traits, personality traits, physical symptoms etc contribute to your problem. You will begin to identify what triggers your symptoms and have a plan in place to deal with it. Triggers can be people places or things that you have trouble tolerating and coping with. Many people don’t realize that they can learn empowering coping skills to use when symptoms are triggered.

For me, my biggest trigger is my own self talk. For years I didn’t even realize that my negative thinking patterns fueled my anxiety symptoms to the extreme. I firmly believe that our thoughts can make or break us. Evaluate your thoughts. Are they realistic or blown way out of proportion?

When you start to understand that much of your problem stems from negative thinking habits and that you can actually change your life by practicing positive thinking skills a whole new world begins to open up. You’ll start thinking in a new and different kind of way. Instead of every day being all gloom and doom, you’ll be thinking of ways to resolve problems instead of wasting time worrying about them, improving yourlife so you can enjoy it for a change!

Every positive step you make will only make you stronger against the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Some of these include, diet, exercise, spirituality, socializing, journaling, helping others, avoiding and coping with triggers, thinking before reacting, assertiveness, controlling your thoughts, seeing setbacks as a challenge not a means to an end, stress management skills, time management, doing nice things for yourself, the list is endless.
You’ll learn to respect and love yourself and build a desire to live a happy life. This journey is challenging but your worth it! Everyone needs support to be successful. Whether you join a support group or talk to a trusted friend, having a circle of support is vital to your success.
As I mentioned before, I quit my job after experiencing the worst time of my life. I thought I had lost everything and life my life was over. Living with chronic anxiety and depression is no different than being an alcoholic. You can be sober for years and something bad happens that triggers a relapse.

Remember this is nothing else, there is hope, you are not alone and you have the ability within yourself to turn your life around. An excellent resource I use and highly recommend is, Attacking Anxiety and Depression. This program teaches you everything I’ve discussed and a lot more. It’s great because you can use it at your own pace and it will help you gain the strength to venture out into the world with a new positive outlook.

Success Stories

Christine-

"I've suffered with generalized anxiety for maybe 10 years or so. Always doubting myself, always questioning everything I did, nothing was ever good enough. I was always waiting for the next disaster to happen. I thought I had gone crazy. I thought it was schizophrenia even though I knew what schizophrenia was, and I had no symptoms.
I can't explain the feeling of relief and hope that came over me when I got the program. I knew that I wasn't crazy. I knew that there was help. You could tell Lucinda was talking from her heart. There's something to this. This is the program. I have a life. I don't have to worry about the disaster that's looming around the corner."

Steve-

"I began fearing to go to the store. I began fearing going out with friends. Slowly, but surely, I was becoming a prisoner of my own home. I started suffering from the panic attacks again. Once I was in a supermarket - and I'll never forget - I started thinking, "oh no! What if I pass out? What if I can't make it to the front of the store? What if I can't make it to the cashier?" Everything was running through my mind.
The program has changed my life in so many ways: in the way that I feel about myself, in the way that I react to situations that I'm faced with. It helps me in dealing with those uncomfortable situations that had previously caused panic attacks, and it has made a world of difference. If it wasn't for this program, I don't know if I'd be here today.

John-
"For many years, I appeared to be somebody who had a lot of things going for them: health, youth, good education, and a good career. I never really understood why I felt so bad all the time.
The program lets you be who you are. It doesn't so much change you as it gets rid of all the negative worries, the irrational and nonsensical things that have been in your mind and have prevented you from being who you are.
If I hadn't gone through the program, many parts of my life would probably be the same. The difference is I would be miserable and unable to enjoy the good things in my life."

Mary Lee-
"I started having frequent panic attacks. First I was avoiding elevators, then planes, then public transportation. Even 10 miles was a difficult distance for me to drive. My parents lived about 30 miles away, so there was about a year that I didn't even go and see them.
The Attacking Anxiety & Depression tapes were self-paced. They were so great because they had people that sounded like me.
I have been through panic and anxiety problems for probably 30 years off and on. I have been through therapists and medication, and I have talked to counselors. All those things have their place; but to be able to get a program, like Attacking Anxiety & Depression, which you can do at your own pace, is a relatively minor investment, features people that know what they're talking about, and has telephone support... It's just an amazing tool. It's absolutely worth the price."

Patricia-
"I was afraid to be left alone. Someone would have to be with me all the time. Running a simple errand like getting milk from the closest store was an effort. I would have fear. I would avoid situations. I would have heart palpitations, sweating. All I knew was I wanted to be home. If I was home I would be safe. I couldn't even pick my son up from the bus stop, which was only a 10-minute drive.
If it hadn't been for the program Attacking Anxiety and Depression, I would not have been able to visit my sister when she was terminally ill. I would've lost out on a very special time with her. And I will forever be grateful for that.
I would say to a friend or anyone close to me, "Don't waste another second. Don't hesitate. Don't doubt yourself. Don't doubt this program."

Allen-
"I was off work for six weeks with my first panic attack. I couldn't stop sweating; I couldn't stop worrying. I just felt impending doom. We went to the Emergency Room. There I was diagnosed with anxiety.

I couldn't wait for the program to be shipped to my house. When it arrived, it was like Christmas. I dug into the tapes; started in right away. After listening to the third tape, I knew I was on the way to recovery. Now I'm not afraid of anything. I've had guns pointed at me. I've been through some very serious felony stops. I've caught bank robbers.
The program does work and it works in so many different ways, you could not imagine. My life was nothing. The quality is now so vastly improved, I couldn't be more satisfied. Those tapes are as good as gold."

Physician Reviews

Stuart Bloom, Ph.D., CA
"The ATTACKING ANXIETY & DEPRESSION tapes and workbook finally provide a roadmap that is clear, comprehensive and user friendly for those traveling the lonely and often terrifying road of anxiety. I find the program is a powerfully helpful resource."

Nancy Margulis Martina, A.C.S.W., NY
"It used to take 6-9 months for my clients to reach the level of recovery that they now achieve in 15-weeks with The Midwest Center Program, ATTACKING ANXIETY & DEPRESSION."

William K. Van Dyke Ph.D., MI
"We have used the Program with individuals and groups since 1992. Our clients find the design and structure of The Program to be very helpful in hastening and maintaining recovery from panic and anxiety. It is a reasonable financial investment considering its effectiveness and therapeutic value."

David Kaleta, M.Ed. LPC Ph.D.
"Comments from patients using the program have been extremely positive. For example, one patient wrote, "I feel normal again. The coping skills I've learned have changed my life. I am not afraid of life anymore. I thank God for all of you people at The Midwest. No amount of money could possibly equal what you have given me - a new lease on life!" With the help of this program, my patients have been able to live a full, complete and happy lifestyle, free from disabling anxiety (also depression, if this condition exists)."

Michael Smith, Group Health HMO, Madison, WI
"I think this program treats the issues and the illness better than I do. It is really thorough. It covers all the things that I know about but I usually don't get them condensed and delivered in an efficient way. It's very cost effective. I think one of the things that all HMO's in the country are trying to find is a way to save money and yet provide really high quality services to their clientele. And what ATTACKING ANXIETY & DEPRESSION is doing is treating the problem directly. It's cost efficient because the people who are using the tapes and using the support through the tapes are getting better. And as they get better, they present less anxiety and depression related symptoms to their doctors."
